Marine Mammal Research Program Social Media Internship Announcement

The Marine Mammal Research Program at the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology is seeking a social media intern to help expand their presence on social media platforms and share lab research with a wider audience. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow graduate students in the field and in the lab on Coconut Island to develop content for social media projects.
Applicant Requirements:
Undergraduate student at UH Mānoa
Proficient in using social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, & Facebook.
Preferably has a TikTok and has experience with video editing.
Fully vaccinated and boosted.
Commitment: 8 hours per week minimum.
Dates: January 10 – May 13 (Spring 2022 semester)
Position Description:
The student will be tasked with creating TikTok videos including assisting in developing content ideas, filming content in the field or in lab, editing videos, and compiling videos to upload on the lab TikTok account. The student may also be tasked with uploading content to other social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The student will have the opportunity to “shadow” graduate students in the field and there will be many opportunities to be in the field and spend time on boats. We prefer the student come into lab atleast once a week if not in the field, to meet with lab members to discuss content ideas and create content.
This opportunity is offered to all UH Biology, Marine Biology, or Communication majors. Preference will be given to individuals that demonstrate an interest in marine mammals, and/or have an interest in social media and communication.
We are unable to offer funding at this time but we can provide research or internship credit though the University of Hawaiʻi via the Biology or Communication department for the Spring 2022 semester.
